Halloween is in the past, Thanksgiving is just around the corner but really all eyes are on Christmas and New Year. Although it usually creeps up on me, leaving no time to plan, this year I decided to act well in advance. I’ve asked around, did a little research, so there’s no excuse. Get ready to bring some twinkle, sparkle and Christmas magic to your home with the City Savvy shortlist of where to buy your Christmas decorations.
The most obvious and convenient choices are supermarkets – you can do all your Christmas decoration shopping, pick up a fake Christmas tree on the way, not forgetting your weekly groceries. If you’re looking for something a little more special then check out some of the lovely home stores here and of course the delightful Christmas markets are coming soon!

Cactus – La Belle Etoille
A definite plus of the oldest shopping centre in Luxembourg is the fact that real Christmas trees can be purchased there, as well as fake ones.

The Swedish giant has already put their Christmas collections on their shelves, including wrapping paper, gift bags and a variety of festive ribbons, Christmas lights and textiles. The nostalgics can even find UNICEF’s greeting cards there!

Always a good place to go to look for decorations, Ava rarely disappoints. Usually they sport smaller fake trees as well and if you are planning a big festive bash, their vast choice of disposable plates, cups and cutlery is just what you need.

Mainly a home decor shop, Casa fills up with plastic fir trees for the festive season, together with the appropriate tree decorations. There are eight of their shops around the Grand Duchy.

The Habitat Christmas collection is everything you’d expect from a shop with 50 years of décor experience. Beautiful!

Maisons du Monde
Many have confessed to Maisons du Monde being their favourite place to hunt for Christmas decorations. Although there are only two shops in Luxembourg, the ones in Messancy and Thionville are fairly close.

Just as with Ikea, Hema is impossible to resist – you pop in for just one single item, and an hour and 100 euros later you leave the shop one happy camper.

Often overlooked, the PartyShop seems the most obvious of them all for decoration. In addition, balloon arches are available, as well as all different kinds of costumes.

The other Swedish giant is mainly thought of as a clothes shop, but with the opening of H&M home in the city centre recently, it has gained a whole new appeal! Christmas tree ornaments, pillows, aprons, mugs and jugs are all there waiting for you.

For a touch of different and unique, pay a visit to Dania, a charming little shop just off Place de France in Merl, with beautiful Scandinavian design.

Another eye-catching design shop, formerly known as Ben and Pepper’s, offers Christmas home décor worth having a look at.

For those who are in no rush, online shopping is always an option and apart from the obvious Amazon, John Lewis has really nice seasonal items and you can get personalised décor at Not On The High Street.
If you are in the mood for golden pinecone ornaments for your tree this year, have a look at Luxdeco.
Also, Facebook is full of crafty individuals offering hand-made ornaments. Alternatively, you can become the crafty one and make them yourself. Bastelkiste is just around the corner!
