Many of us struggled to figure out what we were meant to do for a living. If there were ever a tale of someone knowing from childhood EXACTLY what their path should be, it would be Jeremy Buchet- his clients clearly reap the benefits of his drive.
Growing up in a small village in the Loire Valley, Jeremy literally spent his childhood in his mother’s hair salon. Some kids played with transformers, he played with hair care products. For him, his house and the salon were interchangeable. The gentle clicking of scissors and the hum of the dryer mixed with laughter were sounds that formed the soundtrack of his formative years. Closely observing his mother’s relationship to her clients, he learned firsthand how therapists and stylists are one and the same. He saw how her clients used the salon as a place of respite and often cried, talked and laughed, all while knowing their secrets were safe.
He has brilliantly brought this intimacy into his own salon- the connection he has with his clients is likely one of the main reasons he is one of the most sought-after stylists in Luxembourg.
When speaking to Jeremy about when he knew he wanted to train as a stylist, he smiles and tells me about the posters he’d plastered across his teenage bedroom of women with flowing locks. It was about the hair, not the women. His mother never pushed him in any direction but when she knew his passion was truly hair, she encouraged him to explore new techniques. His journey has taken him in directions he never dreamed possible, from Tours to Bordeaux and finally to the ultimate chic Paris.
In the City of Light, he was incredibly sought after for his expertise-he did everything from styling manes strutting down the A-list runways, to being entrusted with the locks of pre-eminent ballerinas and the ringlets of famous Opera singers.
He was told it would be career suicide to move to Luxembourg and open a salon, but we thank our lucky stars he followed his gut because he went on to establish a premier destination on Avenue de la Liberté. For the lucky ones that get a seat in the salon, they can be certain that it will be hard to find someone who makes them look better.
I am one of Jeremy’s clients, and I often feel I should apologize to him for not providing the tresses he so deserves to work with, but hey, mother nature! We often laugh with the team about my baby-fine hair, but if I do say so myself, I somehow still walk out looking and feeling fabulous.
When building the salon, his intention was to make it feel less ‘hair salon’ and more ‘home.’
Scandinavian designers were consulted when decorating, and the utmost care was devoted to making the place feel like a relaxed oasis. Gorgeous books on yoga, design and antiques are there for clients to flip through while relaxing music soothes the soul.
His passion and energy are palpable. He is an AVEDA salon vet and with warmth as his trademark, he has meticulously chosen his staff so that it feels like family. Nicola, is a master colourist whose work is known throughout the City. Jeremy worked for two years to bring him to his salon and now he is an integral part of the team. There is also Aleks, who brings an incredible talent for colour and cuts along with her stylish energy. The latest addition to the salon is his original mentor, his mother and his team now feels complete.
Ask any of his clients and they will tell you- he is a brilliant listener and gives legendary, cuts. He can handle the full spectrum of requests, from sharp and modern to long, soft and layered but says that most of his clients want their hair to fall naturally and don’t want anything too extreme.
It mustn’t be overlooked that he is also the go-to cutter and stylist for Lux guys in the know.
Many of his male clients are ‘sent’ to him as their wives make the appointments, and often whisper in his ear ‘I’d like my husband to have a cut like this but don’t tell him I said so. Let him think it is his idea!’
The team at ByJeremy work around the clock until 8 pm and while getting an appointment might involve a wait, like most great things, it’s worth it. We are pinching ourselves that he now has an in-house nail technician, and we have our fingers crossed that a downstairs spa will one day follow.
