Ditch the flowers and chocolates – woo your love with something different. Luxembourg is packed with romantic walks that won’t cost you a penny. Tried and tested, here is a list of City Savvy’s 3 highest scorers on the romance-o-meter to get you started.
1. Bonnevoie: along the lovely Alzette River
This is ideal if you want a short stroll without having to drive out of the city. The tarmac pedestrian path under a long archway of trees also makes this walk the cleanest and easiest option. Walking alongside the Alzette River you will may even spot wildlife such as ducks and grey herons. Bring a flask of coffee, enjoy the peace and quiet, and make use of the numerous benches to take a pause along the way.
Start this walk next to Pont de l’alzette (near rue Auguste Charles) and continue along the footpath ‘rue Godchaux’. After walking past the sculptures, under the tunnel and past the terraced houses take the path that bears right to continue along rue Godchaux. For an alternative return route, cross the bridge to your right when you get to the canoe hire building and follow the blue ‘1’ flag back to the main road.
- By car: rue Auguste Charles and park near the bridge, Pont de l’alzette.
- By bus: no 15 direction Hamm/Rue de Bitbourg, stop at ‘Kofferfabrik’

2. Larochette: XII Century fortified castle ruins
Lace up your hiking boots and head for the forest of the Ernz Blanche Valley where you will find the XII Century fortified castle ruins of Larochette. There are several different paths to choose from, all very well signposted along the way, but we suggest the walk marked by the L2 signposts which starts from Larochette Town Hall. Climb to the viewpoint, Verluerekascht, to breathe in the fresh air and enjoy the panoramic views of the medieval town. The magical Meysembourg Castle, surrounded by woodland and a park, will mark your half way point. Take a seat at one of the picnic tables here or keep walking and enjoy the warmth of one of the many cafés in Larochette’s main square.

3. Remich: a vine walk!
What could be more romantic than a walk through some of the country’s finest vineyards? Head to Remich to discover a hidden spot with endless views of what seems like a jigsaw of multicoloured fields. This walk takes you through the old town before heading uphill into the vineyards. You can walk uninterrupted next to the famous grapevines before returning to the town to admire the Moselle river whilst sipping a glass of cremant. Start from the car park next to the swimming pool and follow the blue signs.
