It might be Monday but it’s never too early in the week to start planning your weekend hikes. Truly a hiker’s nirvana, the region known at ‘Little Switzerland’ offers you stunning views of the gorgeous landscape of Lux.

Delightful Mullerthal experience in the surroundings of Berdorf (lux. Bäerdref), a tourism hotspot and a hiker’s paradise lying in the Echternach canton in eastern Luxembourg. The region is well-known for the maze of walking trails through the breathtaking sandstone landscapes with their specific flora and fauna.

Start from the parking by the “Trail-Inn” hotel in the village centre (49.82182N, 6.34965E). Cross the charming village and reach the open countryside. Dive into lush beech forests and walk down the “Halsbaach” dell, deeply cut into the sandstone plateau. Follow the stream (occasionally dried out) past impressive cliffs and take a closer look at the bizarre weathering traces. Cross the CR364 country road by the enormous “Perekop” rock, a popular photo stop for roadtrippers, and continue through the picturesque “Aesbech” vale. Before returning to the starting point, discover the stunning “Huel Lee” (Hohllay) cavern, a manmade grindstone quarry dating back to the Roman times.

After the walk, pay a visit to the 55 metres high Aquatower of Berdorf, offering an interesting exhibition on drinking water and excellent views over the region from the top platform. For further information on entrance fees, opening times, guided tours,…, check Aquatower. Other websites of interest: Berdorf and Mullerthal.
