The original ThinkPinkLux guide to living in Luxembourg with cancer, an English language booklet with useful information on cancer care, treatment and support in Luxembourg has been updated!
The booklet is aimed at women who find themselves faced with a diagnosis, away from their family and the usual forms of support. It contains practical information, tips on talking to people about diagnosis and treatment, useful questions to ask medical and service providers, information on health insurance, well being etc. It is based on the personal experiences of English speaking women living in Luxembourg. The guide is available from most doctors’ surgeries, the Centre Hospitalier and maternity ward. It is available on request to individuals by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. The booklet is free but donations are welcome.
ThinkPinkLux, is a Luxembourg registered a.s.b.l. formed in October 2009 by a small group of like-minded women whose lives have been touched by cancer either directly or through their families and friends. The aim of the group is to support women living in Luxembourg with the day to day reality of cancer, to raise awareness of cancers affecting women, to identify and where appropriate develop resources useful to women affected by cancer and to raise funds for ThinkPinkLux to meet these objectives.
ThinkPinkLux undertakes a range of activities throughout the year;
- Funding Research
- Supporting women with cancer and their families
- Raising awareness of cancers that particularly affect women
Over the last 6 years, ThinkPinkLux has raised more than €150,000. This money has been spent on many projects to support women living with the reality of cancer; €63,000 has also been granted under the “Marian Aldred Award” to the LBMCC to fund a PhD student undertaking fundamental cancer research here in Luxembourg into the treatment of cancer. The student recently completed his research, has published a number of papers on the research and successfully defended his PhD Thesis at the University of Nancy. This Award was launched in 2012 following the untimely death of one of the committee’s founding members, Marian Aldred, due to ovarian cancer.

Most of these activities also benefit from the generous and practical support of some of Luxembourg’s most important organisations, including Luxair, Bernard Massard, BGL and the International School of Luxembourg.
ThinkPinkLux also has a support group that meets to connect women with similar experiences and provides awareness-raising talks and presentations to groups and organisations; if you would like to get involved, please contact the organisation via their website.
