A Love Letter to Luxembourg

14 February 2024

This Valentine’s Day we wanted to send our very own love letter to Luxembourg…

Our unique little country has so much to love. From the cobbled streets of charming villages to the grand castles perched on lush hills, there is so much beauty to appreciate. Even though Luxembourg is the 7th smallest country in the world, our appreciation for it is vast. Each cobblestone, each alleyway, holds a fragment of its story, a testament to the enduring legacy of those who have called it home.

With the diverse mixing pot of European culture, there is always something new to discover here. With almost half of our population being composed of foreigners, it’s no wonder there’s always someone new to meet. Our native language of Luxembourgish reflects the multilingual charm of our culture.

Each year we look forward to June 23rd, our chance to celebrate “the green heart of Europe” and make the most of our beautiful summertime weather. With a third of our country covered in abundant forests, we live up to the nickname. We feel grateful living among the perfect scenery for long hikes with magnificent views.

This country has a rich history dating back to 963 and has lived on to be the only grand duchy left in Europe. With the Schengen Agreement signed in our very own country, we feel so thankful to be able to travel passport-free within the Schengen Area. We feel the importance of unity in the European Union, appreciating that Luxembourg was one of the six founding countries. We also host several European Union institutions, including the European Court of Justice and the European Investment Bank.

We are proud to call Luxembourg our home and we are proud of our history, so like our motto says “mir wëlle bleiwe wat mir sinn,” we want to remain as we are. Today, Luxembourg is known for its stability, prosperity, and international influence. We are honored to be recognized as a major financial center and to be called home by many international organizations.

And we aren’t the only ones that show our love for this country. UNESCO has named the entirety of Luxembourg City as a World Heritage site, showing the cultural significance of the place we get to call home.

Sprinkled with culinary creativity, Luxembourg has the most Michelin-starred restaurants per capita. With all of our amazing restaurants, architectural sites, and cultural events Luxembourg provides accessible options to experience it all with our free public transportation.

So this February 14th when we open a bottle of wine from the Moselle vineyards, we will be reminded why we fall in love with Luxembourg everyday. CSL has loved reporting on the people, places, and events that have shaped Luxembourg for the past 10 years, and we can’t wait to see where the future takes us.

XOXO,

CSL MAG
