We’ve seen it on the news, read about it in the papers and most of us will have seen at least one story on our Facebook newsfeed from someone who has been there and shared their experience. It’s really happening, to real people – somebody’s parent, sibling or child, fleeing their homes in search of a safe place, and finding themselves displaced in Calais. If you’re wondering how you can help, two local women have put a movement into action right here in the Duchy.
What is CalAid?
A group of volunteers collecting urgently-needed donations for those living in the Calais migrant camps. We believe that no person should be without access to basic human rights like shelter and warmth; and by collecting donations we can work to improve these conditions.
What Can YOU Do?
Donate. It’s as simple as that – your time, items from the below list, or money (there is a JustGiving campaign set up). Erica and Eyi have set up drop off points across the country, and will rent a van to deliver all of the donated items on September 6th, and then other trips will be scheduled after that.
Below is a list of things that people need, and because storage space at the camp is limited while distribution is organised, anything not on the list will be turned away. Drop off points so far include Findel, Grevenmacher and Schuttrange. If you can help or would like more information please contact Erica or Eyi directly through the Facebook page.
