Luxembourg’s cobbled streets, stunning views and spectacular architecture makes an ideal backdrop for strolling hand in hand. Is there anything better than being in love with Luxembourg AND sharing a table with your sweetheart? Where to go to celebrate Valentines can be a challenge. As usual, City Savvy has your ideas of where to book the perfect table to celebrate the day dedicated to love.
It’s no secret that we love this little gem which has been placed by Cupid himself, perfectly in Place D’Armes which offers spectacular views from the top floor sitting next to a cozy fire. A St Valentin four course menu begins with a Valentine’s cocktail and includes shrimp tempura, salad with goat cheese and truffle vinaigrette, pan fried cod with with lemon and finishes with a red fruits and Sicilian pistachio cake.
- Good for: city centre so you can crush on your city and your valentine
Oro e Argento

There angels beautifully painted on the walls and there will be live music throughout the evening. Their Valentines menu means a seven course modern and intelligent take on Italian cuisine- (one which translates as ‘an interpretation of a gin tonic)…so if you can’t find romance here….

Let’s face it, February is cold and can be dark and with the major snowfall, it can feel like spring is years away. Our suggestion is to embrace it and all things winter at this very Scandinavian retreat. Warmth and getting cozy is the key to Elch, with dark furnishings, a roaring fire and the Elk head itself proudly displayed on the walls. Think hunting lodge, but with very very good food. The menu does have a lot of game on it, but also some beautiful fish and seafood dishes and a great cheeseboard. Not great for vegetarians though.

L’Etoile du Top Floor at the Sofitel
This restaurant is all about the views. Go early so that you can still see them- especially if there is recent snowfall! The food won’t disappoint and has recently changed from gastronomic to more meat, but what makes this venue stand out is the panoramic views of the city’s downtown. Enjoy Luxembourg at night from the Gare to the Grund with everything in between. You don’t need a room in the hotel to dine in the restaurant but maybe after a night of spectacular views and drinks, it isn’t a bad idea!
- Good for: making the night last a little longer.
Ma Langue Sourit
If you ask anyone on all the foodie forums where they would go for a classy and fancy night in Luxembourg, Michelin starred Ma Langue Sourit almost always comes out top trumps with a ‘smiling tongue.’ This is less of a restaurant, rather a gorgeous journey and you can put all your trust in your guide: chef Patron Cyril Molard. It is located in a tranquil area near the small village of Moutfort but is worth the drive.
- Good for: An exceptional adventure in the middle of the forest.
Le Pomme Cannelle
If you haven’t been to Le Royal in the city centre since it has been renovated, then how about having a classy cocktail in the piano bar followed by duck foie gras, langostine and sole. As an added bonus, by dining here on V-Day, you are both entered in to win his and her watches created by the Luxembourg artist Armand Strainchamps.
- Good for: couples who want to pretend they are on a business trip and randomly meet yet you must get creative because, sadly, there are no expense accounts!
The crown jewel of the Luxembourg dining scene, this Michelin-starred tour de force offers a special Valentine’s menu designed for monsieur and madame. The dishes compliment each other but are designed for each gender’s pallet. There are seven courses in all, and it includes foie gras, truffles, pigeon and brioche. Valentine’s here promises to be an evening your pallet and pocketbook will never forget. Also, you’ll have to either be very well connected or book for 2015. They are full for this year. But we can dream.
- Good for: Grand gestures.

Here’s a great idea- choose your own Valentine’s day desserts or even put together your own basket full of all of your favourite items for your Valentine. Choose from gorgeous jars of jams, perfectly made miniature pies, truffles, wines, champagne, tea …whatever you choose, it is sure to warm the cockles of your other half. Of course while you are there, you can also take home the main course and sides and et voilà! Done and done.
Also worth noting: see Cocotte’s facebook for details but they are organizing a contest which ends of February 8th, where you can win a 3 course meal for 2 people and a Atelier Paulin bracelet for the 1st prize, and 3 x the 2nd prize of the Atelier Paulin bracelet, but act quickly!
- Good for: Those who don’t want to break the bank and like their own table at home but also like fresh, homemade food and would rather snuggle up with Netflix in pyjamas rather than put on their Sunday Best.
Now remember: Oysters are, apparently one of nature’s most potent aphrodisiacs and if these fishy delights are a part of your meal, don’t blame CSL if you end up with an additional member of the family around mid November. Although- you know what else is sexy? The calmness of a child-free meal. Serenity might be your idea of an aphrodisiac!
And just in case you would rather cupid fall on his own arrow, Hitch has put together the AntiValentine event by way of Speed Dating. There is free registration if you email firstname.lastname@example.org and as an added bonus, participants will receive free crémant & beer during the event.
- Good for: celebrating your FREEDOM!
